Pets can travel in two ways: in the cabin with you, or unaccompanied. We will mainly focus on pets traveling in the passenger cabin as a carry-on. The general requirements or rules include: A health certificate - in most cases health certificates are issued by a licensed veterinarian who examined the animal within certain (airline specifics - see below) days of transport Age - Dogs and cats must be at least 8 weeks old and must have been weaned before traveling by air Carryon pet are small enough to fit comfortably in a kennel (or carrier) that is placed under the seat Animals are never allowed out of the kennel (or carrier) during flight Advance reservation Refusal - All airlines reserve the right to refuse an animal for reasons such as not meeting IATA regulations, illness, poor kenneling, or extreme temperatures at origin, transfer or destination airports.
